Some of Spain’s best-preserved Roman ruins, a charming old town full of Gothic Architecture and the golden beaches of the Costa Daurada are just some of the many attractions to be found in and around Tarragona
The Ferreres Aqueduct
(also known as Pont del Diable) is located 4 kilometers to the north of the city.
Roman Wall Of Tarragona
During Roman times, the city of Tarragona was surrounded by an impressive stone wall. Today a well-preserved section of this wall is around 1 kilometer long with many towers and gates.
The wall is quite high with some marvelous views of the Tarragona city and Mediterranean sea.
Near the outer wall you can find several cannons are displayed.
Tarragona Cathedral
The impressive 12th Century Tarragona Cathedral of Santa Maria, built with Golden Sandstone distinctive of Costa Daurada is near the Roman Wall in Tarragona’s old town (Casc Antìc). Well worth visiting.
Tarragona Ampitheatre
In close proximity to the Cathedral you can find the Tarragona Amphitheatre. Another impressive building from the days of Roman rule, built in the 2nd Century AD.
You can get a combined ticket for all of Tarragona’s historic sites (minus the Archaeological Museum), at the tourist office on Carrer Major.
The amphitheatre is open to the public from 9 in the morning to 9 at night Tuesday-Saturday and until 3pm on Sundays.
Tarragona National Archaeological Museum
Found in Tarragona’s old quarter (Casc Antic), in the Plaça del Rei.
The museum holds an impressive display of ancient artifacts from the Roman period, when Tarragona was the capital of an important Roman province.
Tarragona’s Old Town
Casc Antìc is a lovely part of Tarragona, a labyrinth of medieval alleyways enclosed within the city walls.
Steeped in history with gothic spires, narrow streets and colourful squares. Have a wander, get lost in the old town.
